After multiple floods, Hurricane Harvey being most significant, the H-E-B on South Braeswood near Chimney Rock closed its doors in 2017 with a goal of reopening elsewhere in Meyerland. Meanwhile, Meyerland Plaza owner Fidelis had been trying to land H-E-B as a tenant for several years. However, all anchor spaces in the development were leased, and there was no available land to develop. The solution was to build a two-story H-E-B — only the third such store in Houston — on part of the parking lot. Because the project includes 712 parking spaces across both levels, it actually increased the number of spaces available.
