A BELOVED off-price retail chain and major TJ Maxx competitor broke ground on 80 new stores in 2025.
The CEO of Ross Stores revealed the numbers at the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, sharing that even more are to come in the new year.
“Regarding our store expansion program, 2025 is an exciting year of continued growth as we expanded into new markets while deepening our footprint in existing ones,” said the top boss of Ross Stores, Jim Conroy.
The CEO outlined during the earnings call that 80 new Ross Dress for Less stores were opened throughout last year in both established markets such as California and Florida, as well as new markets.
For example, the TJ Maxx rival opened its first Ross stores in the New York Metro Area and in Puerto Rico.
Ross Stores also opened 10 brand new dd’s DISCOUNTS stores in 2025, according to Conroy.
“Inclusive of nine closures, we ended the year with 2,267 stores consisting of 1,904 Ross Dress for Less and 363 dd’s DISCOUNTS locations,” said the off-price retailer CEO.
Ross Stores achieved “one of our best years in a while” in terms of store productivity thanks to the new locations outperforming expectations.
Conroy shared that several strategic changes significantly contributed to the company’s total sales growth, with both new and existing locations doing well.
For example, improved merchandise assortment, more effective, value-driven marketing campaigns, and a focus on the “treasure-hunt” shopping experience all boosted the retailer’s brand appeal.
