The Mall of Abilene now offers a private lactation lounge at the South Branch Library, enhancing support for nursing mothers and caregivers.
ABILENE, Texas — Families visiting the Mall of Abilene now have access to a private space designed specifically for nursing mothers and caregivers.
On Tuesday, the South Branch Library unveiled its new lactation lounge, offering parents a comfortable and quiet place to care for their children.
The room includes oversized chairs, toys, diapers, informational materials, a baby weigh-in station and a changing table. Library staff say the goal is to create a calm and supportive environment for parents who need privacy while visiting the mall.
Crow said the space was previously the library’s quiet room. After seeing increased demand from families attending programs like Baby Steps, staff realized the room could better serve the community as a designated nursing area.
“A lot of our families used this space, and at our grand opening there was a need for it,” Crow said. “There’s a need for it in our community, and the library is a great place for all of that to happen.”
Crow said the lounge is part of the library’s ongoing effort to support parents and young children.
“It’s supporting our local community and our mothers, the families, the young children and just giving them a spot to be,” she said.
