FIDELIS IN THE NEWS

Meyerland Plaza’s future is bright

Located along the 610 West Loop at Beechnut Street, Meyerland Plaza is one of the largest, most iconic and most prominent retail centers in the Houston Metropolitan area. The plaza opened in the late 1950s and continues to be one of the area’s top go-to retail destinations. Since acquiring Meyerland Plaza in 2013, the Fidelis team has strived to ensure that Meyerland Plaza maintains its prominence by securing and retaining national retailers, including the new two-story H-E-B superstore that opened early last year.

With a new year ahead of us, we are thrilled to welcome the Houston Texans to Meyerland Plaza. Recently, the Texans announced the opening of their third Texans Fit fitness facility at Meyerland Plaza, located in the former 24 Hour Fitness facility. According to the Texans, “all Texans Fit locations are newly renovated with more than 36,000 square-feet, housing state-of-the-art fitness equipment and elite trainers to accommodate members’ individual fitness goals.” This addition to the Meyerland community allows residents to “train like the pros.”

In addition to Texans Fit, we are excited to share that we are working with a national sporting goods retailer who will be moving into Meyerland Plaza this year, along with several other large and dominant merchants that will replace former long-standing merchants at the center who sadly experienced bankruptcy in last year’s COVID retail apocalypse. These new additions to the center will ensure the Meyerland and Bellaire communities continue to have a first-class shopping facility right in their backyards.

The Meyerland/Bellaire community is constantly evolving, growing and adapting to natural events. As we all are painfully aware, the area has been impacted by numerous flood events that have caused us to be nimble and adapt to each situation as it arises. Time and time again, this community has come out the other side stronger and more resilient. It is an honor to be a neighbor and provider of products and services in this close-knit community.

2020 was an extremely tough year on everyone, including our merchants at Meyerland Plaza. We saw a decrease in tenants due to COVID, but Meyerland Plaza, like the residents of Meyerland, will always persevere and prevail.

The Fidelis team explored countless avenues to work with our merchants during these difficult times and, through these efforts, many businesses were able to weather the worst economic downturn of this pandemic during summer 2020. Unfortunately, many of our merchants and companies were simply unable to make it through the economic decline. Notwithstanding 2020, Meyerland Plaza’s best days are ahead, just like the Meyerland/Bellaire communities.

Meyerland Plaza prides itself on being a great neighbor, and we value our relationship with the Meyerland community and remain committed to giving residents a unique shopping experience, close to home. Stay tuned for many great new merchants coming your way in 2021!
