A new Lowe’s store in Willis has an opening date. The Mooresville, North Carolina-based home improvement retailer said its 121,000-square-foot store at 12220 Interstate 45 N. will open Nov. 20.
It’s in Fidelis’ The Market at Willis on the southeast corner of Interstate 45 and FM 1097, as the Houston Business Journal reported previously. Anchored by H-E-B, the 510,493-square-foot shopping center is 93% leased, according to Fidelis.
The store includes 95,000 square feet of indoor retail space plus 26,000 square feet of outdoor garden area. It’s the fifth Lowe’s to open in Texas this year and the third to open in the Houston area since 2025. Lowe’s Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW) has 154 Texas stores, the most of any state.
The Willis store will be among the first Lowe’s to have a redesigned tool section with a simplified open layout, wider aisles and lower fixture heights meant to make finding products easier.
It also features a redesigned kitchen showroom with larger product displays and signage with QR codes linking to online tools, including a style quiz, budget calculator and 3D visualizer, according to the company.
The store will bring 100 full- and part-time jobs to the community, Lowe’s said. “There’s a lot of growth happening around Willis, but it still has that close-knit community feel,” store manager Jacob King said in a news release. “We want to be the kind of store that people can count on, whether they’re tackling a project at home, running a business, or just need some advice.”
Like Conroe, Willis is in the path of growth as residential development moves north of The Woodlands.
Within the Willis Independent School District, there are 31 residential communities planned or underway, according to Community Builders Advisory Services, including giant developments such as Howard Hughes Communities' 2,000-acre The Woodlands Hills and Caldwell Cos.’ 1,200-acre Chambers Creek.
Lowe’s opening in Willis beats the expected 2027 opening of a Home Depot under construction southeast of Conroe, on the northeast corner of FM 1314 and state Highway 242. It is part of the Prime Square retail center, where a McDonald’s is already open and other tenants are pending.
The property is across Highway 242 from Evergreen Village, a large retail center Houston-based NewQuest Properties is developing, and across FM 1314 from The Blue Ox Group’s planned Prime Village retail center.
H-E-B LP owns 30 acres on the southwest corner of the intersection.
The Prime Square development is outside the 740-acre Evergreen community by Shea Homes, which is expected to have 2,000 homes at build-out. Other master-planned communities in the area include Airia Development’s 2,800-acre Artavia and Pulte Homes’ 820-acre Mavera with more than 3,000 homes at build-out.
