Burlington is opening its latest store in Houston on Aug. 2.

The 40,000-square-foot store, 9730 Katy Freeway, will sell brand-name clothing and accessories, home decor, cosmetics and baby products. The new store, located inside the Village Plaza at Bunker Hill shopping center, will employ 85 workers.

The New Jersey-based off-price retailer, perates 684 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico, including 23 in the Houston area. It takes advantage of close-out sales and overstocks from traditional department stores to offer brand-name goods at lower prices.

"We are thrilled to open a new Burlington in Houston," Chief Executive Tom Kingsbury said in a statement. "This new location brings jobs to the community, and provides a great shopping experience for the entire family."

Burlington reported net income of $78 million on sales of $1.63 billion during its first quarter ended May 4. Profits fell 5.8 percent while sales grew 7.3 percent compared to the prior year. Same-store sales grew 0.1 percent year over year.
