A deal between Triyar and Fidelis Realty Partners was completed Wed., July 15, 2015, putting San Jacinto Mall into the hands of new owners.
The property's closing was good news to Mayor Stephen DonCarlos and city councilmen, and culminated four years of efforts to get the declining mall turned around.
"With the mall under new ownership, I think there is going to be a lot of opportunities to attract many retailers to the area and keep those dollars in Baytown," said Councilman Brandon Capetillo, whose district includes San Jacinto Mall. "Agreements can now begin between Fidelis and those entities, including HEB."
Developer Alan Hassenflu's plan calls for the demolition of the entire San Jacinto Mall other than the three anchor stores – Macy's, JCPenney and Sears. The company would then reconfigure the mall with new buildings and shopping areas. The open-air retail complex would have a minimum of 750,000 square feet.
